Why is there no indication of on or off?

My laptop isn't detecting the external monitor all of a sudden. But I'm not here to ask about that. The external monitor shows nothing, and I can't even tell whether the power is on. There's no light, or on/off position. The power button is a toggle. So when I'm troubleshooting, I would really like to know that the monitor is on, otherwise the tests are meaningless. Why did Acer make a monitor that has no power indicator light or anything like that? Or if there is an indicator, where is it??

This is an X171 model. I bought it maybe 4 years ago. I found the user manual online, and the section on the controls at the bottom of the monitor says, "Green: power is on. Orange: sleep mode." I'm sorry but there's nothing that is either green or orange. There is no light, or anything else that changes color.

Thanks for any hints, suggestions, etc. BTW, I have a picture of these control buttons, but I don't know how to upload an image to this post. I don't see anyplace to do that.
