g5-793 CPU heating up in spikes?

I've had this laptop for approximately two weeks, and playing a lot of games across the board the CPU ranges from 60 degrees to 98 degrees (Rare spike, not consistent). Thing is, I'm going to be taking this laptop with me to school, and I don't want to risk putting all my files on it if the cpu FRIES playing medium settings on a game like gw2 (processor heavy). Is there anyway I can lower this CPU heat? I've already tried undervolting which helped SIGNIFICANTLY but the spikes still randomly happen.

I had this issue too (but it was both CPU and GPU), and I was finding that it was DustDefender turning on during games (which AFAIk it's not supposed to do) which had moderate load (under 60% for both CPU and GPU) which was causing my temps to shoot up 10-12C in the course of 10-30 seconds.

I don't know why that can't be set to just run manually, I had to uninstall it.

Alternatively, it could be that your CPU (since you're not seeing this same problem with your GPU) is badly pasted.  I would recommend talking to Acer about it to see if they can repaste, 98C is really high.

Yea could be bad thermal paste, what are the ambient temps like where you live? Also are you locking your FPS to 60? Just because your laptop can do 100+ fps doesn't mean it has to pump out the max FPS possible. You should be able to max out GW2 and keep temps low. Really surprised to see such high temps especially since you already undervolted. Your laptop should shut off before any damage is done, the threshold is 100c I believe on that chip. 98 is a concern but as long as its not sitting at 98 for extended periods you'll be alright. Always practice good back up habits also, any pc is prone to failure and you should always back your stuff up!
