Bios install question Helios 300

About a week ago, I updated my GTX1060 VGA Driver. When I tried to do this by unzipping and installing the VGA Driver downloaded from the Acer site, the install failed half way through the install. In that case, I was able to go to the Nvidia site and download and successfully load the Driver that I needed. But what would happen if I downloaded the latest Bios version from Acer, and it failed to install? What would my remedy be? Would the original Bios still be there, or is my machine hosed at that point?

What is your BIOS version right now? Failed BIOS install = bricked laptop as far as I know. I've installed 4 different bios updates with 0 problems, just make sure your laptop is plugged into the adapter/wall and NOT on battery power. Follow all the instructions the update gives you and you should be okay. I wouldn't touch it though unless you are comfortable with the possibility of bricking your computer. Very small chance something goes wrong but hey it's possible and you need to accept this risk before even downloading the update.

If you decide to do the update I can't stress enough: Once you start updating DO NOT touch the laptop or turn it off until you're back at the windows sign in screen. Your fans will blow full blast during the update this is normal, your laptop screen will go blank at the end and the laptop should turn itself off and on a few times. I thought something went wrong the first time because it took awhile to get back to the login screen after everything was over.

The process overall is very simple and you probably won't have any issues but as the saying goes 'if it isn't broken don't fix it'. Unless you're having some issue that updating the BIOS can specifically fix AND you accept the small risk of something going wrong I would leave it alone.

you should disable all virus scanners before doing bios updates. The tool does check the downloaded file before updating and does restart automatically.

There's always a little risk left that a device is bricked by updating Bios. In the worst case you must recover it (maybe by sending it back to ACER).

So think about this:" NEVER CHANGE A RUNNING SYSTEM!"

Thanks. I'm not having any issues, so I'll leave well alone until such time as I do.
