Just received this the other day, very impressed on the device for the price point. However the device just won't hold a charge and suddenly dies well before the indicator shows as flat.

Has been taking longer to charge to full over the past few days. Over 12 hours to get to full.  If left unplugged on standby without any apps running the battery will suddenly plummet to nothing at about 80% after 9 or 10 hours.

So basically unless left plugged in, its dead wihtin 10 hours even if I dont use it. Factory reset seems pointless as its new out of the box but I will give it a go.

Seems to me the battery is no good, do you think I should return it? Or is there anything I can try.

Sounds like you have done most of the diagnostics already. As long as you are using the stock charger and cable you should be seeing much better performance. It could be the battery, the charger or the cable. Best to return it for a new one if you are still in that window with the seller. If you are past that just contact Acer support and they will get it fixed for you.
