Displayport Alternate Mode
Do Acer laptops support Displayport Alternate Mode through the USB 3.1 port?
Mine does not seem to work. Windows 10 gives me the below error message when I plug in the Amazon.com top-ranked Cable Matters USB C to HDMI adapter:
"Try improving the usb connection. Displayport connection might not work. Try using a different cable"
If I click on the notification it guides me to the following help page from Microsoft:

Hi,
I have the same model with the same problem.
In the manual it states this model has a port type USB 3.1 Type-C, Gen 1
I bought a type C adaptor with an HDMI port hoping to connect a 2nd display via displayport mode of the PC Type C connector.
This doesn't work and Win 10 displays the error you quoted.
It turns out that the Gen 1 spec is virtually a USB 3.0 in all respects and can never use the displayport mode.
So not all Type-C connectors are equal - we got the lowest spec on the Acer F5.
This article explains most things about Type-C and USB 3.1

The Acer type C port isn't even labelled correctly.
USB 3.1 Gen 1 should have SS (Super Speed) above the USB Trident symbol.
USB 3.1 Gen 2 should have SS 10 (Super Speed 10 Gbps)
One with Display port capability should show a "P" symbol.
Our Acer F5 just has the original USB symbol (Trident) - nothing more.
Bummer Acer.

Is it possible to get around this by using a split cable with HDMI for image and USB C for power on the PC end?0
