Acer desktop

Hi,

There's been some time since this problem appeared on my Aspire 1804WSMi but I thought there might be a solution for it, so I'm posting it here.

This is the laptop's desktop pic. You can see a black space at the bottom of the desktop. The laptop's maximum resolution is 1440x900. The desktop's resolution has suddenly changed from 1440x900 to 1440x1023 and the black space are the additional 123 pixels that were somehow added to the vertical resolution. The picture was taken while I was using a remote desktop viewer that was of course able to display the complete resolution which includes the black space. That black space is not visible on the laptop's screen. I can see everything above that, and the above resolution remains 1440x900 as if nothing ever changed. The black space is displayed internally but is never actually visible on the laptop itself.

This results in a cropped image when something switches to fullscreen view. Either image or video of course. As long as windows are used, I can always keep them inside the visible area.

Unfortunately, this is definitely a hardware issue since the bottom line that once said: "Press F2 for BIOS setup or F12 for boot menu..." during RAM testing when the system was started, is not there anymore. The text mode characters seem to be expanded vertically too. So, there is no driver issue here since the problem exists before the operating system loads at all.

Has anyone faced this ever? Do you know what is responsible for this issue and if it can be fixed by me?
Thank you!  Smiley Happy

A physical issue would need to be resolved through service.
