Aspire 8730

Hi, i'm the owner of an Aspire 8730 Laptop and i've been having a display problem. Recently, I've discovered that I could shut down the display of my screen by pressing FN+F6. More recently though, it had a weird effect. The screen stays black until I use FN+F6, but once I do, it only remains on for 1-2 seconds then goes black again. Is there some kind of key that inverted its function, is my inverter dead, or is there a possible solution to this?

I'd buy another laptop right away if I could, but I can't currently.
