How exactly did you refresh? In other words, what refresh procedure did you use? Jack E/NJ

I only know it was in June last year, on my desktop I have a long list of apps removed. I must have followed instructions from the web as I am not very technically minded. Have just been in a 4 year period of stress with house moves, new supplier etc. OGS

OK. We may be able to get you back to a factory-fresh state just before the March upgrade. If successful, you would get the Acer apps back any programs that originally came with the machine from the factory. Is that what you would like to try? Jack E/NJ

What I would like is to restore some of my lost apps e.g. Office 10windows etc I cannot remember what was on the original windows but back to that sounds great  The technician really had no ideas of what to do. and downloaded Libre office which is no real use to me. thank you

OK, please follow the ACER recovery method on this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2xoMEPfiPQ

If this recovery method is possible, you will have a choice of restoring the machine to a factory-fresh new state or a factory-fresh state while trying to save any data you may have put on it since buying it. It should restore any ACER apps or programs that were installed on the machine at the factory. If Office10 was one of the factory-installed programs, it should restore that.

If this procedure isn't possible, there is still one other way to do this so don't despair. Let us know if the video procedure works or not.

Did the Alt+F10 recovery procedure shown in the main youtube video work or not? The bank of videos on the right side of the main video are not as good as the instructions in the main video. Jack E/NJ

Hi Jack it was a different person on the you tube video I followed th instructions it has taken me some time as I do not seem to be quick enough. 1st 2 attempts igot a high pitcvhed scream I was not sure how long I have to keep pressing ALT and F10 but now it just seems to open my computer as normal. I assume it is something I am doing wrong. I apologise for the delay in getting back to you OGS

OK, if you weren't able to do the Alt+F10 recovery as shown in the video  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2xoMEPfiPQ  , then we have to change a setting when the computer first boots up and show the ACER logo splash screen. To do this, simply turn the laptop off by pressing and holding the power button till it shuts off if necessary.

Then press the power button one time to turn the machine back on. At the ACER logo splash screen, tap the F2 button. A BIOS screen menu should open up. Select the MAIN dropdown menuitem. Make sure the D2D recovery option is enabled. Then press F10 to exit and save this setting.

Once saved, turn the laptop back off as previously if necessary. Then try the Alt+F10 procedure exactly as shown in the main ACER youtube video  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2xoMEPfiPQ

This should re-install the original Windows version on your laptop as it was received from the factory.

Hi Jack, I followed all your instructions, got into the menu after pressing F2 and enabled the D2D recovery. I switched off then switched on again using Alt and F10. I was unsure how long to keep the buttons pressed down so as I have arthritis in my fingers I stopped when my fongers were hurting! Nothing seemed to happen then I noticed that 2 blue lights were on ,on the front of my computer. and the engine was whirring so I left it running for many hours. When I switched on again there was no change. I am beginning to think I am not capable of following instructions. Thank you so much for your patience and help OGS

    >>>using Alt and F10. I was unsure how long to keep the buttons pressed down >>>

Try pressing AND holding the ALT key. Then tap the F10 key while still pressing and holding the ALT key. This maneuver should be done when you first see the ACER logo splashscreen. The response to access the recovery mode should be relatively quick. You shouldn't have keep the buttons pressed for a long time. Jack E/NJ

Hi Jack I apologise for the delay in getting back to you.

I have again followed the Acer message on You Tube and tried again your ideas starting with F2 then going onto Alt F10 and a line appeared stating it was loading files. It stopped again and due to my impatience iwas pressing or tapping F2 and F10 when an automatic repair  message came up I followed this and half way through or after 20 mins I had a message stating the refresh/repair had not taken place and nothing had been changes. I will telephone Acer in the UK tomorrow.

If I could give you hundreds of kudos I would as you have been very helpful and patients I think this machine is maybe past helping or I am  best wishes OGS

If the D2D option was successfully enabled in the BIOS, the Alt+F10 startup procedure should work given enough time --- or tries. 8^)   If it were mine, I'd give the Alt+F10 method another shot exactly as shown in ACER-Justin's video. That is, select the first recovery option re-set the machine to factory default. If it seems to stop at some point during the process, just try to walk away from it for a few hours or overnight. Sometimes these recoveries take longer than expected as there's a lot of bits, bytes and so on being written to the hard drive. Just let it take its time doing its thing. And see what happens. Good luck! Jack E/NJ
