Acer xb270hu display crashing

I'm having an odd problem with my display crashing intermittently while using my xb270hu with my current desktop running windows 10 and a gtx 970, what is so odd about it is it is not consistent in what causes the crash, so I'm looking for a litttle help in isolating and fixing the problem.

The gist of it though is when playing a game or watching a video the monitor screen will go blank and give the "no input detected" message like my display driver crashed, the odd part is that it will happen on anythign from accessign the map screen in  Mass Effect Andromeda, random gameplay in Crusader kings 2, changing menus in Total War:warhammer, but never for Witcher 3, dishonored 2, or xcom 2or even Msi Kombuster (yet.) It also won't crash to the same action either, so attempts to repeat a crash to find the cause is dificult.  Reducing graphics settings does not seem to affect the chances of it happening nor does activating, or deactivating G-sync, reducing or increasing the refresh rate also does not seem to have an effect. Sometimes it will happen after 3 minutes of starting a game or an hour in,

Thinking it might be a problem with my GPU going bad I swapped out the Acer for an older Gateway monitor, then tried my 4k tv, I was not able to produce a crash on either of them after several hours (and cranking up graphics settings) which makes a gpu problem seem less likely (or maybe I tested on a good day.)

I have also replaced the Display port cord with a new one  without any noticeble effect on how often the crashes occur.  Thus far the only  common elements for the crashes eems to be the combination of the XB270hu and certain videogames.

What else can I do to try and find the cause of this? am I just going about this all wrong?

Any help is appreciated, thank you for your time.

Have you tried another DisplayPort cable ?

2 of my friends got defected once with their monitors.

Yes I have tried with another Display port cable, and I still get the same issue, the new cable does not appear to increase or decrease the chances of the crash.

I'm partial to thinking it might actually be the GPU since I can access the xb270hu's  built in menu and such, but that wouldn't explain why the prroblem does not appear when using another monitor/tv.

I've also tried plugging in multiple displays to the computer, when I got a display crash it swapped the 2nd monitor to primary display and disabled nvidia control panel and geforce experience.
