hello everyone! I'm just here to ask a question if this is all normal or not.
(I hope you guys don't mind my terrible English)
So, a few weeks ago I figured it was time to re-install Windows 10. I chose the option to remove every single file and 'clean up' the harddrive. but when the laptop rebooted to Windows loading screen it just suddenly froze. and after 6 seconds the harddrive shut down. I thought it was preparing something but unfortunately after 4 days passing by it didn't do a single thing.
So I grabbed my Windows 7 copy to test out if it is the same there, and yep. 'starting windows', it froze in the middle of the animation and exactly the same happened just like Windows 10. same goes for Windows 8.

Is this a bios problem or is the device just faulty?

oh and another question. what if I want to go back to W8 (it originally came with this OS) do I need to buy a new code or is the code hardware locked on the motherboard?
(I hate that there are no Installation codes on the bottom of laptops anymore)

Thanks for the help in advance!

product key is embedded on BIOS, so you don't need to worry about it.

about freezes during installation and HDD shutting down, this is not good.

create a bootable USB windows 10 installation media:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

boot from it and once at language selection, press shift+F10 key, then
then inside the  command prompt type
    diskpart
    then on diskpart type
    list disk
take note of the correct disk ID to erase
    type
    select disk x
(x is the ID of your HDD to erase)
    type
    clean all

your HDD will be erased completly, it will take over an hour if you have a large HDD/SSD, once done, close the command prompt and continue with windows installation.

    I'm not an Acer employee.
