I just purchased a c730 chromebook intending to wipe it and install a Linux distribution, to become a lightweight Linux laptop. I have no interest in running chrome os, I bought this laptop solely for the hardware. Unfortunately the firmware appears to be locked and I am unable to change the operating system (I have followed many online tutorials). This took me by surprise, I have installed Linux on many former Windows laptops with no problems and did not anticipate this machine being so difficult.

The c720 has a write protection screw on the motherboard, and there are many online tutorials explaining how to find and remove this. However I can find no information on how to disable write protection on the c730.

How do I disable firmware write protection on the c730 chromebook?

I intend to install modified firmware as per the instructions here: https://mrchromebox.tech/#fwscript

I believe it's the one next to the WLAN module.
