Hi!

I have an Acer Aspire V3-772G laptop with windows 8. A few weeks ago I accidentally clicked a link and it came with a virus. My computer completely shut down and didn't start up. I've tried to revive it a few times but with no real success, just got it to start up with a black screen and nothing happening. Now it starts up and goes as far as to the log-in page and if I try to go further than that it runs but the screen turns black and nothing works. It runs incredibly slow and I have stuff on it which I haven't backed up.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

And if you need anymore information just let me know!

do you need to recover your personal data?

Since I can't get the computer to work I have no idea what's left and what's not.
I've read that most people try to restart the operating system which means that everything on the computer will be deleted, if that's what you mean with recovering my personal data?

    try this:
    at boot press shift+F8
    select Safe Mode

once in Safe mode, you will able to backup your personal data

About the black screen, try this

once in Safe mode, go to Device manager, click on Display adapters, right click on your VGA and choose uninstall(tick to uninstall software too).

reboot normally and check if black/blank screen is fixed.

Shift + f8 didn't work. The screen stopped/lagged for a minute then got back to the pre log-in page where a picture and clock etc. is shown.

ok, on log-in page, can you see the power button on the bottom right of screen?

if so, press shift key and left click it on restart over the power button

let it restart or go to the next menu

    Click on Troubleshoot
    Click on Advanced Options
    Click on Startup Settings
    Click on Restart.
The PC will now reboot to the Startup Settings screen.
Press 4 to Enable Safe Mode as prompted or click on Enable safe mode.

Nothing happens when i press shift and left click restart above the power button. Tried just left clicking it, also with other buttons pressed down and nothing happens, unfortunately.

Tried it and could only choose restart and no advanced settings. Came back to the log-in page and tried to log in as normal but it's been stuck loading for a while now.

at this point, you need to create a bootable windows 8.1 USB flash drive:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8

once done, enter BIOS on your laptop pressing F2 at boot, go to boot menu and enable F12 boot menu, press F10 to save and exit.

plug your USB flash drive, boot and press F12 to enable boot menu, choose your USB flash drive.

    then choose repair your pc
    Click on Troubleshoot.
    Click on Advanced Options.
    Click on Startup Settings.
    Click on Restart.
The PC will now reboot to the Startup Settings screen.
Press 4 to Enable Safe Mode as prompted.

Takes a while to download so I'll get back to you when I'm able to test it!

I tried logging in while waiting for the download to be completed and it took about an hour but it has completely loaded my desktop now. It barely works and operates very slow, can't open any programmes.

Try to backup what you need and do a clean windows 8.1 installation.
