W700 - bluetooth keeps disappearing

Iconia W700 upgraded to windows 10.

The Bluetooth keeps disappearing in device management after a few sessions in windows 10 (I see them when I check [Hidden Devices]).  So I have to remove and reinstall the bluetooth drivers and do a few reboots before the bluetooth starts working again.  And sometimes when the BT comes back and I do a search for my keyboard it cant find it.  2-3 more reboots often helps and I can pair the keyboard.  But I know the BT will stop a few sessions later anyway.

I have also experienced the BT suddenly starts working again while I type on the On-Screen display as I see the BT icon in the systray pops up out of nowhere.

I have tried alle possible solutions I have found.  The next will be reinstalling OS from scratch from my external usb dvd drive.  But I'm like 12000-14000 kms away from home while I write this and I wont be home before in 2 weeks.

Is it a crappy Qualcomm/atheros BT+wifi module on the motherboard?  Badly written drivers?  Or...?

And what can I do about it?

Well.  Maybe this tablet was too cheap (approx 2500 dkr = 350-400 dollars when I bought it on sale 3 years ago)... Smiley Sad

The module handles both Bluetooth and Wifi, do you see any issues with the network side? If the Wifi is flawless then the problem is less likely to be the module and more likely the software or drivers. If the Wifi is also dropping out occasionally then I'd start with the easy (check to make sure the antennas are solidly attached) then to the slightly more difficult (swap out the module).

I had the usual wifi problems back when I bought the tablet.  No probs with bluetooth at all and I remember I got the wifi issue fixed within a few days.

Anyway.  A few days ago when I decided to answer your post I also decided to delete every single usb driver and usb related driver as there was a stopped unknown usb device in device management.  That locked me completely out as the touchscreen apparently is connected to usb somehow (I can be wrong here).  Today I powered up the tablet and suddenly I could use the keyboard.  A little tabbing later (no mouse, no touchscreen) I rebooted my device and completely new sets of drivers for usb and bluetooth appeared in device management.  Touchscreen and BT keyboard now works like a charm.  Kinda odd.

It could have been some messed up usb drivers that caused all the problems when I grabbed the upgrade for win10.  Now I can see my w700 uses the default drivers from microsoft.  No atheros/qualcomm drivers are installed.

Yeah, a lot of the less performance hogging internal interfaces are done through onboard USB 'ports'. This is common on most computers, the interface is so well understood that it's just the default for things that don't need faster access.
