Hello!

Recently I bought an e5-575g-nw laptop (canadian version of american e5-575g-vg) which has a canadian "bilingual" keyboard layout which I don't like.

I know that on this laptop keyboard is replaceable only together with plastic top (palmrest) as it is riveted to it.

Wanted to buy a replacement keyboard with US layout from ebay, but looks like ebay doesn't sell the assembly of palmrest + keyboard.

So I'm wondering if someone knows either of the place where I can buy palmrest+keyboard or a way how to replace a keyboard if it is riveted so that it can be securely attached to palmrest.

Does anyone knows how much autorized acer repair centers will charge for this ?

thank you.

    Hello,

Could you give me the first ten characters of the computer serial number (S/N)? Only the first ten.

    Hello,

    The US keyboard is:

    Spoiler
    6B.GF2N7.028COVER.UPPER.W/KB.US-INT.BLACK.BL (BL=Backlight)

You should be able to buy this part from this reseller. You'll have to use/mount your current touchpad.

I have no idea of the labor cost.

Is there really no way to buy just the kb (i.e. any chance of re-riveting it)?

Did "6B.GF2N7.028" turn out to be the right part #?  It's very difficult to find it anywhere beyond that one poor-looking seller, which is hard to believe. That seller doesn't even bother to mention the part # in question.

He provided a link to seller showing it. They have contact info on that site linked. Call them or email or online chat.  I have the E5-575g US version and have been inside mine many times tweaking it. While it may be possible to separate and install another assembly - the rivet style they used will force you to desperate measures to both take apart and reattach. Can't just drill it out, it will spin and eventually melt in plastic. If reattach loose will have issues just typing on it. One of those parts where the assembly is really the best option without a lot of headache just to save a few extra dollars.

Thanks, that's very helpful. I won't attempt that then.

Yes, that reseller has one very hard-to-see photo, but it's just kind of weird that it seems to be the only place selling it (apart from one Acer European location that I found) while the kbs alone are all over the place.

Yea because there are 2 main types, with and without backlight. Next add in variations in the models.  I never knew that the version you have up north has different layout. Just figure English keyboard layout be same. Be careful when swapping, there's a extra connector in middle near DVD slot for the keyboard backlight with the 2 on front edge for keyboard and touchpad.

It's something Lenovo does, too, though I don't think Dell does, so it's not like it's a law or something. I never quite understood it, but many dislike them.

I don't have it yet, but it would be the same as the OP. This issue is probably going to stop me from buying it, since it adds over $100CAD to the cost for a very ridiculous reason (forced bilingual kbds in Canada).
