the password I carefully recorded will not open my switch 12 this morning. What can I do now?

I usually use the pin to reboot. That doesn't work either.

Some Program was rebooting after an update and the switch is asking for the password.

If this was a Windows password, here are steps on how to recover that you may find helpful:

If this does not resolve the issue please contact Acer support from contact info posted here:

You should log on as a admin, and then go on administrative tools in the control panel, and then click the computer management. Click local users and groups, click on the users folder, right click the administrator account and click set password. There it will ask you to set a new password.

in addition, there are many other free windows password tool like ntpasword, iseepassword or ophcrack.

This might work if there was a way to log on at all. But if that Windows 10 password is lost, I can't start doing anything on the computer at all. No option to log on as an administrator.

What I did do was search all the original documentation I had filed away and eventually found one note where I had written this particular password. Can't ever have too much paper, I guess.

You can also do it with command prompt but it is too complicated. I suggesting using third-party tools with a clean GUI.

One thing to note: free Windows password-cracking tools are usually Linux boot disks that have NT file system (NTFS) drivers and software that will read the registry and rewrite the password hashes for any account including the Administrators. This process requires physical access to the console and an available floppy drive. This is dangerous for beginners.
