athero ar5b125 adapter "parameter incorrect' message

Three days of constant all day efforts won't solve this problem. I have downloaded the driver from Acer (5733 series) and removed and installed the drivers countless times. In device manager the adapter shows a problem with the little icon. Incidentally the laptop won't peoperly connect to the internet with a direct cable broadband either. However, a curious thing: if I type in the ip address for google search it goes right to it, but won't connect to any links resulting from the google search. So apparently I am connected to the internet but no indicators acknowledge that. Also my networks connectioms are not showing in the available network area.

The lap is my wife's and she has been complaing about the internet connection for months. I did a system restore about a month ago and it helped a little. The more I try the more I think the adapter has failed and less than two months out of warranty. Acer won't talk to me and that's after owning at least three.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.
