What is amundsen app?

Howdy,

 

I've just purchased the Acer Liquid Z630S, and digging in the applications I found one which I can't seem to find any information about on the internet.

It's called Amundsen (version 1.00.1017) and it has a green circular icon with the white Antarctica continent in the middle.

 

I'm attaching a screenshot from the phone.

The Amundsen app assists the OOBE setup on the phone.
It helps select and connect to approved WIFI access points.

It also helps configure the applications installed at setup and placement of the applications within the OS during setup.

As per Google play store this is a productivity app. Amundsen International is a global ICT recruitment specialist app.

That Amundsen International app is definitely not what I was referring to, so we can rule that one out.

 

You've mentioned that it is a productivity app. Were you referring to the app I was asking about (see screenshot in my original post), or to the ICT recruitment app?

 

I found the path is:

/system/priv-app/AcerAmundsen/AcerAmundsen.apk

 

So it is an Acer developed system app. And that much is clear now.

 

So, I would just like to know what it is supposed to be doing.

i just found a reference to a Windows Acer's software:

it was a software that helped to choose to boot to android or windows, under windows enviroments, like  aspire one d250.

 

i don't know why it's installed as system application on your Z630s but another user asked the same question without any answer (not in this community) or if it's simply a name coincidence.

Hi IronFly,

 

Appreciate the answer. However, as this is the ACER community, I would expect that an ACER employee would have some insight, or at least a way to communicate to the engineering team which are developing these apps.

 

What chance do you think I would have in getting a straight answer here? The query is of course not urgent in any way - I'm just curious and thought that this would be the best place to get an answer.
