Predator G9-591 Hard Drive overheating

Hi,

I'm experiencing a weird issue where the sata hard drive on my model is going up to about 50-51c while the computer is idle.

According to resource monitor the drive is not in use, and I modified the power settings in control panel to turn the drive off after 5 minutes of non-use. The computer itself is not under load, it is just idling on my desk.

When I turn the laptop on, the drive will be at about 28c, and will slowly heat up, taking between 1 to 2 hours to get to 50-51c, where it seems to stay. No other component in the laptop is getting abnormally hot. The CPU, GPU, motherboard etc are all operating at normal temperatures (between 30-40c), and the fans are working normally.

When I open up the casing to check the internals, the hard drive itself will indeed be quite hot, but nothing else inside will be hot, not even the plastic casing around the drive. I can't find any debris or damage or anything that might be physically causing the issue.

To make things even more weird, this isn't happening all the time. It was happening for a couple days last week, then inexplicably went away without me doing anything, and then started happening again yesterday. When it's not happening the drive idles at about 35c and maybe goes up to about 40 under load. I've had the laptop for a couple months now and only recently started experiencing this problem.

I cannot figure out how only the drive would be getting hot when the drive is not in use.

Is anybody else experiencing this issue? Is this something I should be worried about?

Thanks.
