I'm sorry if I wasted your time on this, but should I be doing it on the Acer? If that's true, then I'll tell you the title makes my problem clear. I've been installing these things on the hard drive my acer came with, but I am booting/installing windows with my personal rig. I can boot anything on my rig, but the acer won't boot anything, sorry if I wasted time on the Windows stuff.

You need to put the hard drive back in your Acer xc-603.

The only thing that you should be doing on your personal rig is creating USB installation media with rufus.

    1. Purchase an 8 GB USB flash drive like the one in link below.  You can find them at Walmart, Walgreens, Bestbuy etc...

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sandisk-cruzer-8gb-usb-2-0-flash-drive-black/9226777.p?skuId=9226777

    2. On your personal rig, insert the USB flash drive and create Windows 10 installation media with rufus.

    3. Make sure the Acer xc-603 computer has it's HDD installed.  Don't remove it anymore.

    4. Remove the USB Windows 10 installation media from your personal rig and then insert it in your Acer xc-603 USB port

    5. Use the link below to help you learn how to clean install Windows 10 on the Acer xc-603

    http://community.acer.com/t5/V-and-VN-Series-Laptops/Acer-Aspire-V3-772-Windows-8-1-clean-install/td-p/449512

    6. After you install Windows 10 on the xc-603, update the BIOS on the xc-603

    7. After you update the BIOS on the xc-603, disable secure boot on the Xc-603 and enable the F12 boot menu on the xc-603.

    8. On your personal rig, create Ubuntu USB installation media with rufus.

    9.  After you create Ubuntu USB installation media, remove the USB flash drive from your personal rig, and insert it in to the xc-603

    10. Install Ubuntu.

If you're overwhelmed, you can just throw in the towel and order your original Acer factory recovery media for the XC-603 from the Acer store. Smiley Happy

Again, the link below has all of the information and tools you need to clean install an operating system in EFI mode.  It doesn't matter if you're trying to install Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 or Ubuntu on your XC-603.

The only difference is when you install Ubuntu/Linux, you must disable secure boot first before you try to install it.

You can't intall it on your personal computer.  You can't just put the hard drive in your personal rig and install windows 10 and then put it in the xc-603.

I wrote an extremely long post as to what you should do.  Step-by-step.  And you're probably going to need to wipe the HDD first with diskpart clean before you install it in the xc-603 (I already gave you the info to do that too).

    Good luck.
