when I try to start my 5542 all I get is a black screen HELP

i have an aspire 5542G laptop when i startit the lights come on and the fan sarts and it makes all the usual noises but all i get is a black screen.I have tried looking at my screen with a flashlight nothig and I have tried the hard start but still nothing . Please any iodeas

It is possible that the HDD has failed, suggest you boot to BIOS and see if the HDD shows...if the HDD shows then it might be due to Video issue0

I have taken everything off opff the motherboard. there is nothing hooked up. all I get is a black screen right from the start

have you attached a different monitor to the unit. to see if your monitor is DEAD. lots of times cable wearout, bend and brake, and with out knowing the usage of. so recommend you attach a different monitor. and what do you mean. you took everything off the motherboard? it is a laptop,0
