Acer Aspire VN7-591G-792U Erratic trackpad

Hi all,

I purchased my laptop about two months ago, but recently, I've been having trackpad issues. The trackpad will be fine at times, but may become unresponsive, move super slowly, and at other times, jump around the screen, and register two or three fingers on the pad. I have looked at solutions in this forum. One popular method seemed to be to uninstall Intel Technology Access, but when I went through my programs, I saw no such thing. I've installed an updated trackpad driver for this model, but am still experiencing the same issues.

Whenever I use my mouse, the tracking seems to be completely fine, so the issue seems to be completely isolated to the trackpad. I understand that I could always just use the mouse, but it would be nice to have a fucntioning trackpad as well. Any help would be much appreciated!

My Acer Switch 10 does this too... i am fairly certain it is a hardware problem, and can't be fixed with drivers. If it is new, contact acer support, and they should fix it under warranty.

Try to update your graphics driver. You'll need to get the zip file from Intel's website. If you're currently using Intel 10.18.15.4248........it has been known to cause touchpad issues and high CPU usage when used with certain software on other laptops.

I checked and you have Haswell/Broadwell so the driver below will work and is the latest.

You'll need to do a manual driver installation using either of the methods below.

Edit: I probably wouldn't assume a hardware problem unless I reset the PC to factory condition and still experienced the issue.

Thanks for the suggestion! Sadly, I am still having problems with my trackpad. At this point, would you believe it is a hardware issue?

If you have the latest BIOS, and then reset the PC to original factory condition....and you still experience the issue while only using the software that came pre-installed on the computer........it could be hardware.

If you are unable to reset your PC to factory condition or unable to create a USB factory recovery drive, you can get your original recovery media from Acer Store.

You have a V5-591G right? I don't think that the anniversary update ruined all the touchpads for all the notebooks. I own a VN7-591G and I don't have any problem with the touchpad on the notebook. I think if for him a software reset will not solve the issue and if it's persistent he should go to a service center.

I had only ONCE this issue with super slow movement of the mouse on the screen with touchpad, and that was when my notebook alerted me about low battery (10%), and after I clicked OK the touchpad functionality returned to normal. However, I am not able to replicate this issue, even if I was warned many times by Windows about low battery afterwards.

In case of the VN7-591G I don't think it's an anniversary update issue.

The symptoms he's describing are exactly how my touchpad has behaved since the Anniversary update so I jumped to the conclusion that it was the same issue. As you say, it might be entirely unrelated if you have that same model and haven't experienced the same thing. Yeah I have a V5-591G.

My touchpad started working again after today's updating!! Thank heavens!!! I was thinking we'd have to wait til the Creator's update but today's Windows Cumulative update fixed it!! Acceleration and precision is back to normal and gestures work as intended. Spread the word! Now my bluetooth mouse is no longer necessary Smiley Happy

Just thought I'd inform everyone, this was a really nerve-wrecking issue and I can't believe Microsoft finally got around to fixing it. My laptop is a V5-591G model and I can confirm my touchpad is working smoothly again, gestures and everything
