571-G WiFi not working after upgrading to Win8 + disabling with Fn Key

I know that I'm not the only one with this problem, but I've found no solution.

I have an Aspire V-571G. It had Win7 preinstalled, I upgraded to Win8. A few days ago I had the need to disable WiFi and used Fn-F3. It did work: Wifi was disabled... but it has never returned. No WiFi, as easy as that.

Now nothing happens when Fn-F3 is pressed, Acer's Device Fast-Lane shows the option to enable/disable airplane mode (but no mention of WiFi, as if it didn't exist), if I try to re-enable it via Windows it always ends up saying something like "WiFi device disconnected, please use the hardware buttons  in your computer to re-connect"...

I have updated, rolled back, uninstalled, reinstalled all drivers. I've done everything... and nothing. BTW, Windows shows no driver errors (the card appears as correctly installed in Device Manger), no special error messages; but it just doesn't work.

I have read somewhere that I should update my Bios; I can't, I am using the latest version. And no option of tweaks in that area, as my notebook has and old-style, not a UEFI, bios.

I need Wifi, and am not willing to assume that my (new) computer will forever have to use an additional USB WiFi device. If I cannot fix this, or Acer gives me no solution, I'll try to return it; but that's a last resource solution.

Any hints or any experience with this, anyone?

Did you use the upgrade assistant when going to Windows 8? We encountered a similar problem upgrading a Windows 7 system, but were able to resolve it by going back to Windows 7, then upgrading, using the Acer Upgrade Assistant.

    Thanks for your response.

I don't really remember how I upgraded, if I used the assistant or not.

However, my plan for this weekend is to uninstall Windows 8 and go back to 7... but I'll probably stay there, at least for the time being. I'll let you know what happens.
