Out of warranty A500 apparently "bricked" itself.

I acquired this from my son; I have an A200 myself.  This unit displays the Acer logo and halts.  I believe it's out-of-warranty.  (My son tried the wipe data, not much else, but needed a tablet for his work, so he bought a different tablet.)  I would consider after-warranty repair, but also looking into trying some of the various alternatives (eg., Cyanomod).  I've done that with a B&N Nook Color.  My preference would, of course, be to get back to stock A500.  I'm trying to weigh the options.

You could pay Acer for out of warranty repair, or if it powers on, you may be able to root the device.
