E15 Backlit Keyboard settings?

I have a new E15 with backlit keyboard. I chose this model for that feature as I like to write in dim to no lighting. The backliting is off unless I hit a key first and then it only stays lit while using the keyboard.  I often pause to read my writing and ponder the next bit so by the time I'm ready to type again they keys are dark.

Is there a registry hack that will allow me to extend the time before it turns off the lighting? Even one minute would be a great improvement. I've been through the power management settings and the BIOS. Nothing there.

While you can press the FN+F9 / F10 to lower or raise the brightness of the keyboard, unfortunately there isn’t a way to have it on by default.

I've contracted Acer several times. At present, there isn't a way to extend the timeout or keep it on permanently. Their response to creating a utility to do so has been less than promising. I use my laptop primarily in the dark for astrophotography. The purpose of a lighted keyboard is to help one type in dark environments. But having to grope and tap a key to turn on the backlighting, in the dark, doesn't seem logical. I'd be willing to sacrifice power savings for the ability to keep the backlighting on.

So Acer, after searching for a solution online, I've taken note of a substantial number of customers who wish to have this very option. It can't be that difficult to add a setting to the bios or a utility upgrade that allows the manipulation of the keyboard backlighting settings. When can we expect a solution?
