Just received new laptop (Aspire V 17 Nitro) today and it cannot detect the battery even when it was plugged in for a while.  Is the battery bad or do I need to do anything such as a battery reset?

    Hi,

On the back of the notebook you have a small pinhole.

Turn off the notebook, disconnect the power source, and push the small button in that pinhole, for around 5 seconds. This will simulate the removal and reinstall of the battery.

If the battery is still not recognized, then please try to uninstall the Microsoft AC adapter and Microsoft ACPI-Compilant control method Battery from device manager and restart the computer.

If is still not recognized, and your notebook turns off if you unplug the power from AC I would sent it back, because I think is a hardware issue.
