Acer G257HL monitor has a line of green pixels and flickers

A few months ago I purchased an Acer G257HL monitor to use on my Alienware 17 laptop.  It's connected by HDMI cable and works fine SOME of the time.

Unfortunately, I have a horizontal line of green pixels about 20% up the screen (closest to the bottom).  That's ALWAYS there.  I've tried the "tap" the pixels thing.  Does NOTHING...  It's always there.  It is NOT VISIBLE ON THE LAPTOP SCREEN.

AND, periodically, the area BELOW the line of green pixels - about the bottom 20% of the screen flickers rhythmically.  That area will flicker up and down slightly for approximately a second, then STOP for 1 - 2 seconds, then flicker again.  It doesn't do it ALL the time, and so far I haven't figured out what causes it to START or STOP...  I've used different HDMI cables - inexpensive on, very GOOD one, and it makes no difference.

I have no idea if this is coming from the video driver in the laptop, though I can't figure out how it would be since it's not there on the laptop screen.  I've also used the laptop and HDMI to drive everything from a 32 inch tv to stream video to a 60 inch display to show images, and NONE of the other devices have ever shown any of these problems...

I have no idea how to diagnose this - if it's even possible, or is this a sign of a problem or impending death for this monitor?  Does the HDMI driving a separate monitor use a different graphics board/card/driver than the one used for the laptop monitor?  If so, why doesn't it show up on any other video device, just this one?

Ideas?

Um, does this mean nobody knows, or that this happens to frequently I should know what to do?
