Acer TImelineX 4830TG overheating - HELP!

I have noticed some serious overheating issues ever since upgrading system to Windows 8. I mainly use the laptop to play Diablo 3, which ran fine when I had Windows 7. I notice a few problems:

1. Computer overheats and shuts down after extended gaming use. Before it shuts down the performance is severely inhibited.

2. The fan sounds loud, clunky and seems to pulse rather than spin consistently. Again, I never noticed this issue until upgrading to Windows 8.

Attempted solutions so far:

1. Took the computer in to get it serviced. Technician cleaned out dust from fan and said it passed various hardware tests...

2. Performed hard reset

3. Updated all drivers

4. Purchased laptop cooling pad

5. Adjusted settings so laptop is set to "Balanced", set cooling to "Active" and reduced maximum processor speed to 80%.

Despite all of this, my computer was still rocking a temperate of 70-80C while downloading various updates!! I didn't even power up Diablo but I suspect it would have gotten even hotter. What should I do at this point?? I have attempted almost everything across multiple forums and nothing seems to work...

My suggestion would be to take it back to the factory installed Windows 7, which appears from your post to work properly.

How do I restore my computer using the eRecovery Management program?

Hello!  I just started having this same issue with my Aspire TimelineX, only difference is Windows 7 came pre-installed on my laptop.  I didn't have this issue before while playing online games, but for the past three weeks my system becomes really hot and then shuts off.  This overheating issue is becoming extremely aggravating.  I'm dealing with the laptop automatically shutting down after playing online for 10 minutes or less.  I can surf the internet without any issues, but I can't play online games without the laptop overheating and shutting down.  Please remedy this issue.  I've had so many problems with this model starting this year....Windows 7 couldn't detect my wireless adapter (self-resolved on yesterday after not functioning for four months)  Power management error (hopefully solved with the recommended hotfix two days ago), cannot update driver files using automatic updating (still having issues with that), and now this overheating issue.  I can't afford to send the laptop to the service center and the warranty expired earlier before the issues started...goodness...sigh.
