Lets try again

According to my laptop the software says the usb is off, but when I have my hard drive connected to it, the wd my book stays on and wakes the laptop back up. and when I turn off the computer,  the drive stays on.

I have also try my new maxtar hard drive. it will let the computer sleep but the hard drive stays on it also stays on when to laptop is turned off.  I just got this computer last week so it should have up to date software.    I have also checked the device manger and I think I tried turning off the power option under it driver space there,  not 100% sure it was a late nite.

Should I deinstall that driver to see if it wii turn it off?

Can I put a normal usb driver in its place?

Ports labeled with this symbol: imageprovide the ability to charge a connected device while the system is powered off. If you don't want your device to be powered on like this, try using a USB port that does not have this symbol.

    Hello,

Is there no other solution.  I bought this laptop to be able to use both of my 3.0 USB hard drives at there full potential.   I would think there is a  way to turn it off, especially because there is a software app on the computer that say it is supposed to be able to turn off the power to the usb.  I have check the western digital and Maxtor sites to see if there was any software or firmware update that would fix this, no luck.  I am using both drives and primary and backup drive for the laptop.

Would it made more sense to use one of the usb 2 ports for the power charge function.

And before you say this model has 2 usb 2.0 ports  I am using one with a splitter for my mouse and to use with my thumbdrives and mps player. and the other has a a 2.0 hard drive connected to it.  I have bought and have  been waiting for a 3.1 to 3.0 cable to use with the 3.1 port for one of the usb 3.0 drive if all else fails.

As an IT person, I have been recommending Acer computer to people as a choice for people to buy if there want a good computer they would cost a lot of money.  But now that I have bought one myself.  I hope that my faith and recommendation weren't unfounded.

I would contact ACer directly if there was an email connection,  all I see is phone and chat.
