I'm about to update BIOS on the two above units as Acer recommends for the free Windows 10 upgrades.  But Acer's BIOS Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are rather curious.  For the Z1620, the "BIOS_Acer_P01.B0_Windows" folder included Windows and DOS options each with SOP. But for the newer E1 unit the "BIOS_Acer_2.30_A_A" folder had a single setup file with a SOP that simply reads, "Execute VAGV230."  VAGV230 must be a Windows-based installer.
So, my main concern is that DOS has long been considered safer for a BIOS update. But if the E1 has no such option, should I throw the old thinking away and use the Windows-based installer for the Z1620 also?  I hadn't planned to.
A separate concern is that although I'll make current system images before BIOS update and have a USB and Disk ISO copy of Microsoft's Media Creation Tool for the "Upgrade to Windows 10 Home, Version 1511, 10586," I understand that if BIOS failure should occur, all restoration applications and media will be useless.  The unit will be "bricked" and the only salvation will be to purchase an Acer technical manual.  Is this correct, or am I overstating things?
FYI for anyone wondering, Acer does say to do a BIOS update before upgrading to Windows 10, but I missed that alert before my July-August upgrades.  However,  ACE Billsey informed me it can be done afterwards because the Windows 10 authentication key remains on an updated BIOS.
Thanks.
