I was installing the latest update for Windows 10 on my iconia tab (W1-810) and at some point something wen't wrong and it came up with the screen saying "Undoing changes", once that had got to 100% it restarted but is now stuck on an error screen saying:

Recovery

Your PC/Device needs to be repaired

A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed.

Error code: 0xc000000f

You'll need to use recovery tools. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your PC administrator or PC/device manufacturer.

Press the Windows key for UEFI Firmware Settings

Is there any way to boot into recovery tools or a recovery partition or do I need to reinstall windows completely?

If it's the latter I have a few more questions:

1. Can I reinstall windows from a micro SD card? Otherwise I'll need to buy an adapter before I can plug in a USB drive

2. If I have to install from a USB drive how will I power the tablet in while installing?

Thanks

Sounds like it might have run out of room while installing updates. The UEFI recovery is expecting the old recovery partition that came with the tablet and that was wiped after the W10 upgrade. If you haven't been doing backups you likely will have to start over with a fresh install. Smiley Sad

You can't use an SD card, though I'm not sure I agree with Microsoft on this. I don't see the SD as being inherently less secure than a USB drive. You'll want a splitter cable that allows you to charge and use the USB data at the same time.

When you first boot the install image, choose to repair and see if it fixes things. If that doesn't work boot to the command prompt and copy personal data from the drive before actually doing the install. You may want to invest in more than a splitter cable, with the right hub you could probably use multiple USB devices while still charging.

Thanks, my splitter cable arrived today. Luckily it had 2 usb and 1 micro so I can charge it and plug in a keyboard and usb drive at the same time

HI, I am in this same position except the USB isn't reading.  Regardless of what my first boot option is in the BIOS, I am still looping at the error.  This is a USB and Micro USB Monster drive, fully functional otherwise.  Unless the drive on this thing isn't functional (only ever used to charge twice).. here is what's happening...

Once it appeared to log in but then there was nothing but the windows logo and a keyboard logo... neither icon was responsive.  It just lit up and nothing else happened.  Rebooting put me back in the loop exactly as described above except the 0xc000000f says 0x0000185.

This is a "new" tablet.  It has been sitting unused for about a year because it was fluky and frustrating for the user.  Ultimately unwanted, it was given to me for a child.  It still had the sticker across the top.  It forced a windows update and has been "off" ever since that failed.  WHY?  Such a waste :(

I give up.  Not buying Acer again.  Not worth it even KNOWING you're on the cheap end of things.
