Aspire Switch 10 won't power on: Windows 10 install problem or coincidental hardware failure?

Greetings! I have an Aspire Switch 10 originally running Windows 8.1 32-bit with Bing, that's just under a year old. I hadn't used it for several months, so over the past few days had been installing various updates that were missed while it was not in use. Yesterday, the Windows 10 update showed up, I ran the utility that determines whether the system can be updated, and then decided to go for it, despite having some reservations about it based on horror stories that others have shared with me. But I thought that the relatively "new" OS on this would mitigate the risk to some extent. Perhaps not so much. I'm not a computer professional, but have done enough computer hardware and software DIY over the past 20 years that I thought I could give this a go with limited risk, but in retrospect should have been more cautious since the operating system is rather an essential component of the computer. Woman Sad

The download was fine, and the installation started and was at about 19% when I had to leave unexpectedly for a couple of hours, so I don't know what happened during that time or at what point the install tanked. I returned to a completely black screen and a unit that won't power on no matter what I try. I spent several hours last night searching and trying various ideas on how to at least get it it to power up, so that I could perhaps attempt some of the other fixes. No luck at all.

I thought I had created a recovery file, but I can't find a flash drive with one, so either my memory fails me about creating a recovery file, or the it's lost. Regardless, since I can't get the unit to power on, I'm not sure that it would do any good if I had one on hand or purchased one from Acer.

The unit has just under 3 weeks left on the manufacturer's wararnty and is under an extended warranty from Costco after that. However, the extended warranty doesn't cover problems caused by software or apps, so if this is a problem that was likely caused by the Windows 10 install, I'm stuck with a brick or will need to continue to try to fix it myself or find a local computer shop that might be able to help  without costing more than I paid for it originally.

Any and all tips, assistance, are welcome. Thanks in advance!

Here's an update on my problem. I had an on-line chat with an Acer support person this morning. After walking me through one final effort to resuscitate my machine, the conclusion was what I thought: the OS was gone. Fortunately, because the model is one that Acer is supporting for Windows 10, and my machine is still under warranty, the repair (reinstall of the original OS) will be covered under the warranty. The downside is there are no local service centers, so it needs to be shipped to Texas.

Needless to say, I will be sticking with the original OS once I get it back.

    Hi EMK57

The same thing happend to me, my laptop refused to start few month's after i already installed Windows 10.

How i fixed it? - I didn't fixed or did anything at all, except i let my laptop be for 24 hours and then tried again and it worked.

Weird, i know but i was affraid it will never start again, but after 24 hours i plugged in the power cable and started the laptop.

    So good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion. I gave it a go and left it untouched for close to two days. Tried it this morning, and no go.

I think it has a one year original warranty which has about 3 weeks left on it, so I guess it's time to contact Acer and see what options might be available.
