Brand new Acer Iconia One 8 bought instore, but already had a verified Google email address

This morning I exchanged a new, faulty Hipstreet tablet for a new Acer Iconia One 8 in PCWorld, a large chain in the UK and Ireland.

When I came home, I unpacked the tablet and tried setting it up. When it was time to enter my Google account information, I got this message: "This device was recently reset. Enter your Google account that this device was last synced with."

Because the Acer was supposedly brand new, I wondered how on earth it could have a synced Google account on it already.

I tried again, but with the same result.

Then tried several hard resets (volume up button + power button). It said it was reset and that all user data had been erased, yet when I want to log my own Google details, I get the same message again.

I later realised that there was a protective plastic cover missing on the new screen, so I was clearly sold a used tablet instead of a brand new one.

When I rang KnowHow, PCWorld's support service, they had no idea how to resolve it aside from telling me I have to go to the shop to replace it.

Because I have eyesight problems due to chronic illness, I obviously need decent and preferably brand new material that will last a good while. I chose Acer because of its good reviews but regret going for the Iconia One 8 (which is the only one I can afford). I now have to go back to the store one more time.

What I would like to know is, is there any way where I can somehow bypass the Google verification steps during setup? The idea of having to go back to the store is just dreadful, especially when I don't know if they will put used material for a full price in my hands again.
