Usb ports being weird?

I have an Aspire E1 laptop, and for some reason the usb ports are behaving strangely. They'll give output for any device I've tried so far (i.e. charging my phone), but they'll only take input from some. For example, I can use a usb drive completely normally, as well as a mouse, but I can't use my pen-tablet, or my printer. The computer doesn't even register that they're connected. This started suddenly with nothing out-of-the-ordinary happening to the computer to prompt it. Any ideas what the problem could be, or how I could go about fixing it?

    Hi slily,

I would start by checking the Device Manager to see if there were any issues. It would help identify any potential issues, but either way, I would uninstall the USB Host Controllers and reboot. Let Windows identify them and reinstall.

If you continue to have trouble, you may want to backup personal data and do a system recovery. This should resolve just about any software issue and if the issues persists would be a clear indication that a hardware failure has occured.

    Hope this helps,
