Acer x34 Predator Question

I have a couple of questions about the Acer x34 predator and how I can integrate this beastly awesome monitor into my current setup. My computer should be up to the task graphically, but my real problem is the sound aspect of my setup. Below are all the specs...

PC:

i7-5820k

Gigabyte 980 Ti

msi x99a motherboard

2x8gb Corsair ram

Samsung 512gb pro ssd

WD black 2tb hdd

Receiver/Sound:

Sony DNR-1040

4 Speakers

1 Subwoofer

Current Monitor:

TV

Ideal Monitor:

Acer x34 Predator

Currrently, I connect my pc to my receiver with HDMI and then my receiver to my TV with hdmi. This is the back of my receiver.

I don't have the x34 predator yet and i'm not very experienced with receiver/monitor hook ups. So i was wondering what solution might I find so that I may enjoy the ultrawide experience as well as my surround sound audio? Would it be possible to run a displayport cable from my pc to the monitor and then run and hdmi cable from the monitor to my receiver? Specifically for sound to pass from the monitor hdmi to the receiver?

Sorry for being long winded I just wanted to post enough information so that I might be able to find a solution to this conundrum.

can you please post a link about your Motherboard?

i can find 2-3 models as MSI x99a

by the way, at first sight, i can suggest you to run a DP cable between your PC and X34, a Optical
S/PDIF-Out audio cable between your PC integrated audio card and Sony receiver.

this will split the work between your GPU and audio card (up to 7.1).

    Hey IronFly,

Thank you for the speedy response!

I looked at the sockets on my Receiver and my motherboard. I just didn't have the monitor yet so wanted to confirm. I believe your suggestion with using the optical out to connect my pc to receiver and then display port to the X34 predator will work. Would I then just go into the audio settings for windows 10 and set my sound as my Video card or would there be two Video card options one for display port and one for optical? Or would the option be under my integrated audio card?

Thank you so much for the help!

Optical audio output will be managed by Realtek control panel or Windows 10 playback devices but you will need to choose SPDIF/Out, so the integrated audio card. Smiley Happy

Congrats for your electronic equipment, good choices.

If I remember correctly Optical out only supports dolby 2.0 not 5.1/7.1.

With your setup all you need to do is attach the monitor via Display port and HDMI to the receiver for audio.

For audio connect the HDMI from your 980Ti to the Receiver.  Then in windows right click the speaker icon on the bottom right, click playback devices and select your receiver.

If you want to disable the TV so you are only using the x34, go into the Nvidia Control Panel and disable the TV.  Enable it whenever you want to switch over.  Or you can use both and just set the X34 as the Primary 1 display.

    Enjoy!
