E531 Won't boot up

I have an E351 that when the power button is pressed, all the lights turn on and it sort of starts, and then shuts right down again.

I've replaced the motherboard.

Any hints on what I should do next?

E5-531? Are you sure the battery isn't dead or a malfuncting power supply?

I've tried booting on AC only, and resetting the battery with the same result. The blue charging light is on when it's plugged in, if that makes any difference.

I've blown out the RAM in case of dust, I've tried booting from CD - when the power button is pressed, all the lights turn on and the CD drive does start to run before the entire thing turns off again, but it doesn't get to the point of showing anything on the screen.

    Any other ideas??

Take out the HDD and one memory dimm and boot. If it does the same, switch the dimms and boot. It should post if the MB is good. Then take out the Wifi card, the optical drive, etc. Anything that doesn't need to be connected. If it still wont post, you either have a bad MB or something is crossed, grounded, shorted.

    Great, thanks for this!

I did try the switching RAM slots as well with no luck but didn't try the rest. Will check it shortly.
