Iconia W3 Touchscreen Stops Responding

My (infrequently-used) Iconia W3 has recently developed a problem in that the Touchscreen randomly becomes completely unresponsive. It sometimes happens right after startup, sometime after a long time, but often enough to make the tablet unusable. Some information:

  1. Putting it to sleep via the power button does not help, however, giving the command to restart (via attached USB keyboard) always brings it back until it stops again, leading me to think this is a software problem.
  2. I'm running Windows 8.1. I've not made any software changes other than allowing Windows to install whatever updates it wants to push through.
  3. Nothing looks wrong in the Device Manager. I tried turning off Power Management for the "I2C HID Device" under "Human Interface Devices"--a suggested generic fix--but that has not eliminated the problem.

Any suggestions for fixing this would be greatly appreciated.

    WARNING:- Requires disassembly!

I had similar problems with my w3, what i did to solve it requires the disassembly of the tablet. So only if you are willing to do it and are careful enough to perform all the tasks then you can try this solution.

After removing the back panel you have to search for the digitizer connector cables, you can use google to identify them. you have to carefully disconnect them (they are connected very tightly, be careful when removing). after that IF the heat sink panels are becoming loose you can push them gently so they will be properly glued back in (was not sure what kind of glue i should use so just pushed them gently) you can reconnect the digitizer connectors back carefully.

    this solved my problem.

NOTE:- if you find that the heat sink panel is loose then try fixing it first and then start the tablet if this will solve the problem you dont need to disconnect and reconnect the digitizer connections. if fixing the heat sink panels wont work or if they look good then disconnect and reconnect the digitizer cables.
