ACER wont repair damaged X34

Sadly I damaged my X34 and the panel probably needs to be replaced - it's not a warranty repair and I would expect it to be an expensive repair, but given that the alternative is throwing it in the bin, I'm happy to pay - accidents happen so pay the money and get it repaired. It seems that ACER won't do the repair - they tell me that because the monitor is larger than 22" they won't replace the panel as they don't have parts available. That's very disappointing for such a new and expensive product.

    Hi funkster,

First, sorry to hear about your monitor...I'm sure that was a frustrating experience to say the least.

I understand the desire to get it fixed, and I can't speak directly for the AU service team, I do know that in the US, the service team is basically in the same boat. The monitor is selling for around 1250-1300$ US, and the panel itself is over 1000$. Between the tools needed, the labor and other factors, there isn't much if any room to save over just purchasing a new one.

I know this isn't the answer you're looking for right now but it isn't a case of Acer trying to leave you high and dry There likely isn't an economic solution that doesn't result in a net lose for one party or another.

Thanks Cory, that makes sense.  I didn't think it would be repairable but thought I'd call the support line to find out and got nothing but mixed messages. If it's not repairable then I can just throw it out and not worry about finding out later that I could have had it repaired.

    Hi funkster,

Depending on how your monitor got damaged (I presume it was at home?) can you not claim on your house contents insurance for a replacement?  They usually cover accidental damages of computer equipment, especially since it's such an expensive single item.  Worth checking your policy at least, I know my basic tenant policy in the UK covers computer items up to £1000 for accidental damage including my X34 but of course it could be different in AUS.
