Hello

I've change hard drive on a emachine ez1601 and i want to install windows 7 on this machine
After boot on usb drive that contains win7 install, when it asks on which drive, the install software says that it cannot install on this drive.
In bios, the sata disk is set as "ide".

When i want to install "linux distributions" like linux mint mate 32 (also on usb key), the install program says "not enough memory".
Also, gparted live on usb key cannot boot this machine...

I can only install a debian distribution with not graphic installation program...

So, what can i do to install win7 and a linux (as mint mate 32) on this computer...

I think thats it's a bios problem ; or may be, i have to use a cdrom media to install OS ?

Thanks for your answers...

Richard

PS : excuse me for my bad english (i am french)

are you sure that your HDD is recognised by BIOS?

if you have AHCI as option, please set it.

    Thanks ironFly...

Bios says that there are 2 sata disks hdd and cd/dvd.

bios option : sata enabled (mode ide) and ide enabled also.

with win7 install ; the disk is found by the program ; but it said that it cannot install or make partition on it.

i tried with "drivers" on usb key but nothing works.

on BIOS check under Security or other tabs, if HDD password is set to frozen.

if you can reach the language selection box during installation, press Shift + F10 to open command prompt

then try this to wipe your HDD and then continue with installation:

    type

    diskpart
    then on diskpart type
    list disk
take note of the correct disk ID to erase
    type
    select disk x
(x is the ID of your HDD to erase)
    type
    clean
    type

    exit

your HDD will be erased completly

    continue with installation

ok, il will try that you hints to me. Thanks one more time IronFly
But why no distribution linux can be installed (as linux mint); it says at linux install "not enough memory found".
Only debian with text install mode can be put on this computer...
    Strange, isnt'it ?

that's why i asked about HDD recognised or HDD with frozen password; it looks like the HDDs have blocked access or full.
