I have found the pre- Windows boot Command Prompt on my Acer laptop. It wasnt easy to find, so I want to share. I am running Win 7 Home Premium.

I had some wierdness going on with my Acer and attempted to run Chkdsk.exe using the C: drive Properites -> Tools -> Check Now dialog. I set the "Schedule disk check" for the next restart, but it failed to run. Repetedly. I tried doing this while in several levels of clean startup modes via msconfig.exe. Nothing worked.

OK the Alt - F10 (Acer Restore Windows), the F12 (boot select), and the F2 (Bios settings) pre-windows startup procedures are all pretty well documented. But none contain the option of a command prompt and I can't find any Acer documentaton of how to achieve that. Note that my laptop has no installation cd and no cd-rom drive.

Here is what did work on my machine. During startup, press F2 to get into Bios settings. Don't change anything. Press Escspe AND start pressing F2 repeatedly as you press Yes / Enter.

You should now be in the Windows Boot Manager. From there, one of your optoins is to press F8 for Advanced Options. Press F8 then choose Repair Your Computer. A new window will open. Choose the Keyboard language. In the next window log in using your normal computer username and password. The next screen allows you to Choose A Recovery Tool and one of the optoins is Commant Prompt.

I'm not sure what other series computers this will work on. Hopefully this will be of use for some other fellow Acer users.
