aspire one cloudbook touchpad loses settings

I have an Aspire One Cloudbook 14. Almost every time Windows 10 updates, something goes "jumpy" with my Synaptics Touchpad.

Starting yesterday, the tray icon for the touchpad disappeared and I cannot find any "settings" for resetting or changing the touchpad. To top it off, when the icon disappeared yesterday, I lost all those settings, i.e., multi-finger gestures of any kind. My settings on those are gone with no way to access them and reset them when I try to get to the settings through the mouse options within Windows 10 Settings.

I have updated to the latest synaptics drivers from acer and no luck. If I run the driver update again, it does pop the icon back in place in the system tray and then I can re-set everything and have the gestures back.

BUT, as soon as I shut down the computer or if I restart -- the tray icon disappears and I lose all the settings again. I found suggestions here that worked for several people (download and install the chip set drivers worked for them, then reinstalling the touchpad driver), but that and nothing I've found on other forums, websites when I google has worked.

I suppose I could try just putting the computer into hibernate or sleep each time I finish using it and just never turn it off, and hope I never have to restart it. But that doesn't seem too practical. Smiley Happy

Thanks for any ideas.
