XP Pro x86 / x64 on acer products

For users preferring Windows XP, it is possible to install XP Pro 32 or 64 bit on acer products in most instances. I recently converted an acer 7740G from Windows 7 to Windows XP Pro SP2 x64. Logically you need to back up all the data you want to restore after the conversion as well as determine what is inside your PC / laptop in advance, download the drivers for the platform you want to install (32 or 64 bit) and then install XP. It is also important to note if your BIOS have an option to change between IDE and AHCI mode for your hard drive controller, if no option is available you cannot install XP unless you integrate the appropriate AHCI driver with the NLite utility! However if you can locate the necessary drivers for the components in your PC and integrate the AHCI driver (if required) with NLite XP will function very well on most acer products.

You should be able to do that on most Win7 computers, but the new comptuers that have Win8 on them, will not do this. The bios is now a UEFI bios and it acts very differently than the legacy bios that comes on older comptuers. I would do some research on what UEFI is so that you would have a better understanding of what it is.

Thank you for your reply Tabbiekatz

I did some reading up on this subject. Personally I am many years away from buying a PC / laptop with a UEFI BIOS, I prefer hardware that allows freedom of choice when it comes to installing the OS of one's choice.
