AG3-710-UR53 Desktop SATA question

I recently bought this predator desktop and I also bought a 256Gb SSD to use as the boot drive like all the kids are doing these days.

I hooked it all up and it boots to the HDD that came with it. It sees the SSD after I installed it. I am able to clone the HDD to the SSD. but when i go into bios and change the boot order to the SSD, it will boot to the point of asking me for my PIN number, but the screen will just flicker on the desktop and I can't click any of the icons or start menu.

I can go into bios and change the boot order back, and everything is fine. While the HDD is primary boot, I can go into the SSD thru the explorer and even run programs from that drive. It just want let me run the PC from that drive as the boot.

One thing that may be causing a hitch is that the SATA ports on the motherboard appear to be SATA 1-4 and SATA 0 is nowhere to be found. The HDD is SATA  port 1. I've tried the SSD in all the other SATA ports with the same results. I have not tried to switch the SSD to the port the HDD is using.

Also the SSD shows up in Bios as a UEFI drive and the HDD shows up and a Master Boot Drive. From what i've read it should allow you to use a UEFI drive as a boot drive.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Thanks

you need to be sure to have cloned the whole HDD to SSD, not some partitions.

once done, disconnect the HDD and try the SSD on the HDD port, without changing boot order (must be windows boot manager).

if it boots, your clone is successfull, if not, there's something wrong.

honestly i'm not a fan of HDD to SSD cloning, since windows installations set a few specific tweaks for SSD installation.

so i always prefer a clean installation when switching support type.

    I'm not an Acer employee.
