    Hi

This is a list of the devices that are compatible with Windows 10.

Windows 7 is great I have two desktops with 7 on but none of them are compatible, one is something to do with the graphics card the other something else. I have now bought a Desktop with windows 10 installed, mainly because I read updates for 7 would be stopping and also it was a bargain. What I will say about Windows 10 is that it is very fast, but hard to get your head around it at first.I still use google on it, and not Microsoft's Edge. If your dad is happy with 7 I wouldn't bother upgrading yet, but I have heard they are pushing the upgrade through without asking via Windows update but there are ways I believe to get around that.

I dont see the Aspire 5820T on the compatible windows 10 list so I think he better stay on windows 7 for a bit longer.  Thanks everyone

I always run my Windows in Classic Mode, turn down the services, etc., and try my best to make sure that Windows is as much in my control as possible. Windows 8, just everything from my minutes of playing with it at MicroCenter, just ew...

However, something about Windows 10 looks and appeals to me, can't quite put my thumb on it. Maybe it's the GWX.exe constantly saying "Hey! It's free! DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!!OMGZPLZ", probably mostly the word free that has made me research it sooo freaking much.

Positives in Switching from Windows 7 to Windows 10:

    1. Apps: might be convenient? No longer having to run some application to run phone apps on your computer, that probably only have, meh... about 65% functionality. (Might be more if you have a touch screen, I do not.)
    2. Internet Explorer's beefed up cousin: If you actually use Internet Explorer, there's a new super fast version of it exclusively to Windows 10! <sarcasm>Oh boy!</sarcasm>
    3. You might still get 30 days to switch back.

    Negatives in Switching:

    1. The privacy concerns: Microsoft put some pretty weirdly worded sentences in their Privacy Policy. Also, the Apps are on a cloud, constantly updating... didn't Microsoft discontinue Windows Gadgets on Windows 7 for this reason? There's lots of tricks that you can do to "protect" your privacy, but I myself have always been skeptical of Microsoft's intentions. We spend enough time trying to protect our privacy from Apps, the Internet, and virus... now your own Operating System?!
    2. No more classic mode/just classic shell: I laughed at people who upgraded to Windows Vista and instantly just realized that their computer was not capable. I like the option of using Classic theme. I find the Aero-styles and GUI-systems that MS tries to make... very resource consuming. This is the most creative benchmark I have seen on MS's GUI vs Classic Mode; a very quick YouTube video on Classic vs Aero.
    3. Lack of noticeable improvements: I will say, that it seems Windows 10... kind of looks like it knows how to handle an SSD a bit better. However, don't look at benchmarks and see that the performance is slightly better without asking yourself if you will notice a millisecond or three.

So, yeah, I have done a wee bit of research on the topic, haha. If you want to get rid of the "Get Windows 10" notifications, there are programs/tutorials on Google to do it. I dunno, if I will ever upgrade... it really feels like to me, Microsoft is being Microsoft, there's always a catch if it's free. Smiley Wink
