Hello everyone, I have an alienware 13 laptop with intel hd 4400 and an nvidia gtx 860m. I am trying to use the mini displayport 1.2 cable on my laptop to the full size dp on my monitor. I cannot get it to do above 30hz @4k though.

The problem is that the external monitor is using the intel hd and not nvidia. There is no option to force use nvidia gpu only in bios. I did set it the global graphics processor to the nvidia in the control panel. I tried using CRU to force set 4k@ 60hz but to no avail. The monitor is indeed capable of 60hz, it is the acer cb280hk. Any ideas? Thanks, Skylar

I suggest you contact Alienware to see if their system is capable of outputting a 4k resolution through the display port. There may be settings you need to adjust. The monitor is going to display the signal that is pushed to it from the computer. If the GPU is only sending the signal at 30 Hz, that is all the monitor is going to display.

Ok. So I'll dig up this thread as I have similiar problem. Allready tried dozen of cables and right now I have purchased specificly cable that is certified for 4K@60Hz. I'm using RX 580 8GB OC, all drivers up to date and no other display connected to GPU. Still no 60Hz for 4K. WTF!? Even tried with driver for the display itself (it is designed for Win 7/8/8.1 but still works).
