Aspire Switch 10, New Version of "Won't Start" Problem

Hello! I have read through all the relevant threads and haven't found a problem exactly like mine. I tried all those troubleshooting solutions..... but none worked.

I had my tablet for two weeks, working perfectly.

My tablet was low on charge, so I plugged it in. I saw that it was charging. Then I left it for about three hours. When I came back, it was off. Well, it seemed off. Except the blue light was on, on the power button.

I tried clicking things, but nothing appeared on the screen. I tried clicking the power button.... nothing.

So I went online and checked solutions. I cannot take the battery out, because of my model. I was able to power it down by holding the power button, but it won't turn back on. Instead, when I turn it off and click the power button again, the blue light (not the orange) comes back on, but that's it. Just the blue light, no other indication of life.

I have tried power + volume UP, power + volume DOWN, home + volume, the pinhole reset button.......

They all succesfully "power it down", but nothing turns it back on.

So I tried one last thing, which was running down the power. After a while with the blue light on, the screen did get warm. In fact it got warmer than usual. But NOW, I am scared to keep the battery running down like that, because it''s getting warmer and warmer. Is it dangerous for it to get too warm?

Is there something else I can do?

Thanks in advance! I loved my tablet while it was fully operational, so I would love a solution.

normally it will boot to BIOS, reading your report, can be a dead LCD screen or bad motherboard.

if you are still under warranty, give Acer service a call.

I should add...   I have tried all of the above both with the tablet docked into the keyboard, and without it being docked. I have also tried clicking Ctrl + Alt + Delete, or the Fnction combo that brightens the screen, etc. I have tried all the commensensical things I could think of.

    Thanks!

    One last thing to add.

I've been trying to contact ACER customer service, but apparently that is impossible. I can't find my SSID without turning the computer on. But I can't turn my computer on, which is why I need to contact customer service. So I try to contact customer service to help me turn my computer on, but I can't enter their system without first turning my computer on to find me SSID. But I can't turn my computer on without first contacting customer service. But I can't contact customer service without first turning my computer on....................

It's the kind of Catch-22 loophole paradox that made Borges go literally insane.

So some advice would be much appreciated!

SSID or SNID is also on the box....hope you still have it.

i know you already tried but....give it another try:

    undock keyboard

plug the AC charger with your tablet shutted down

press power button + volume UP for about 1 minute

let me know if it boots to BIOS

The Serial Number on the Switch 10 series is also located along the bottom of the tablet. If you look where the connection to the dock would be made, you should find the label there. It will be small of course.

I just tried this a few more times. So I don't know what's typically supposed to happen when you power + Volume UP for a minute, so I'll describe what happened to see if it's unusual.

Tablet was plugged into power, undocked from keyboard, and off. Blue light was off, also no orange light. No lights.

I clicked power + Volume UP, and about six - eight seconds in, the blue light came on. I kept holding the two buttons down, but nothing changed. When I reached two minutes I stopped, and nothing happened. It just continued to sit there with the power button emitting the blue light, but no other signs of life.

I tried it again, waiting exactly 1 minute, waiting a little longer, etc, and every time the blue light came on early, and stayed there, and nothing else happened.

    Thanks! I'll do that.

(I better still be under warranty, since I unboxed it two weeks ago haha.)

I'll post back if Acer service proves helpful.

Not sure if Switch 10 is power and volume up or power and volume down. Do know if neither works then sounds like a BIOS problem or a power problem. A major drain (heating up) could keep the voltage to low to power properly. I have seen a shorting battery do that before. At this point it sounds like a hardware issue.

100% sure it's power button + volume up Smiley Happy

Turns out it was indeed a hardware problem. Not sure yet if the culprit is the battery, screen, motherboard, RAM, or what.

For future folk: If your power button isn't showing orange, and you're not able to turn the computer on, contact Acer and send in for repairs.
