Had this machine for three days when "Pokki" icon appeared in "Show hidden icons". It isn't listed in installed programs. When I click on the icon and try to quit it tells me that quitting will prevent use of my apps. I have not downloaded this to my knowledge. What is it? Why is it there? How do I get rid of it?

Pokki is a carryover from windows 8.1 because microsoft botched up the start menu for desktop users in Windows 8.1.

You can go to Control Panel and uninstall Pokki.  At least that's what I did.

Edit: Pokki is Acer pre-installed software.  It's not part of Windows.

Thanks, but how do I uninstal it, it does not appear in the list of programs shown in Control Panel >Programs? Is it any detriment? Is it any use in Windows 10?

If I remember correctly, in a few days it will update itself and ask you if you want to uninstall it. (a popup will appear on the screen)

Why don't you just wait a few days/week to decide.  It's not detrimental.

In the meantime, you should create a factory default USB recovery drive and also a backup of your drivers and apps.

I don't know if Pokki is one of the apps that gets backedup so you better keep it until you know for sure if you like it or not.  I found no use for Pokki, but many people might like it.  Hard to say..  I like anchovies too.  Most people don't.  Smiley Wink
