    Hi, Anthony.

Bootable media from Windows may not be recognized by your Windows desktop since it has a UEFI BIOS. You can change the Secure Boot setting and it should recognize the bootable device.

Upgrading your system BIOS incorrectly could harm your Acer Product. Please proceed with caution.

You may update your BIOS to P11.B2. This will add and support "Launch CSM" item in BIOS setup menu.

After upgrading BIOS, you may disable secure boot option in BIOS to boot from a bootable disc.

Here's the steps to disable secure boot :  Disable secure boot

I have the latest file, P11.B4L, but I'm getting the same "incompatible" message when I run the DOS BIOS update utility, and I do have "Secure boot" disabled and "Launch CSM" is "Always." And the machine will not boot from my Hiren's bootable thumb drive that works everywhere else....it's looking for a loader (ldr) file, even though it works in other machines.

Another suspicious thing is, this is a CostCo version of the Aspire XC-603, the "W" model, and even after typing in either the SNID or S/N into the support site, and it brings up the list of available BIOS files (latest being P11.B4L), the version that's already installed is P21-B1C1, dated 8/6/14. How could my current BIOS be so out of numeric sequence with the "P11" series? Is this CostCo version not updatable? SNID: [edited to comply with guidelines]

And one more thing, why are we using a DOS-based BIOS update environment and utility in the P11.B4L download, when one of the earlier BIOS updates contains a Windows-based utility???  I figured Acer had concluded or experienced that the Win-utility was unstable, or some other flaw, and had moved back to tried-and-true DOS-based utility, so figured I shouldn't use the Win utility.

Thanks for any light you can shed.

P.S. Why doesn't the installed Acer Update app also update the BIOS?? When run, it says there's nothing to update.

    Edit your SNID!

the DOS flash tool is correct, probably CostCo xc-603 version has a different BIOS as you reported, so you can't flash that version.

as i wrote L versions are for Linux based system only and can be flashed over L BIOS versions only.

your BIOS is not a L version, so flash tool is again correct.

why only DOS and not windows? simple...L BIOS is for Linux based system only, so how a windows flasher can be used on it?

OK Iron, thanks, but you're only telling half the info...if the only BIOS versions posted are L for Linux, where are the Windows versions of BIOS? If I enter SNID, only BIOS file offered on USA site is L version.

And thanks for editting SNID, I didn't realize that was a security risk....how could that be used by someone badly?

Also let me point out the "DOS" utility is included with the L version of the BIOS, so is this really a Linux utility? I have Ubuntu Studio 14.10, so I could run from DVD, but the utility does run under DOS, no error if I just run AFUDOS.EXE with no switches.

not really only the L version is available:

DOS flasher is OS indipendent, obvious can't be used under Linux but Acer doesn't have a Linux flash tool so...how you can update BIOS if you have only a Linux distro installed?

    DOS

it's a really small enviroment that can boot even from the old floppy disk.

i didn't edit the SNID, moderator did and posting SNID is like posting your car's VIN.

Ok, I see, P11.B4 package does have Win flash. Sorry for the confusion.

Has anyone (like a moderator) heard of any version of XC-603 that can not flash, is there special, "cheap" CostCo version of motherboard with no EEPROM for BIOS, so not updatable?
