Recovery problem

I have an Aspire 1 with Windows 7 Starter. I tried to run the recovery from the HD and now all I get is a message stating that "Setup is updating the registry settings" and then it goes to "Setup is staring services" then a message box with "Windows could not finish configuring the system. To attempt to resume configuration, restart the computer." When I click "ok" to restart I just the same thing all over again. When I got this netbook I tried to create a thumb driver recovery drive but I could as when I tried I would get a message box telling me to insert a disk into the CDR drive which is not installed on these little netbooks. Is there any way I can still get a recovery thumb drive for this netbook? I went to the Acer store but all they have are recovery CD's, not thumb drives.

Which Aspire One model? If it has a recovery partition, you might be able to recover using the Alt+F10 method as shown on this video

If not, probably the easiest approach is to simply purchase a ~$20 usb optical drive on Amazon so that you can use the recovery CDs and avoid making a USB recovery bootstick.
