Acer Aspire 3680-2574 will not boot up

I have an Acer Aspire 3680-2574 running Win XP SP3. I was on vacation for 2 weeks and upon return I was able to boot up the lap top but in about 1 hour it shut down. I found that the battery was dead and then subsequently found that my home had lost power for several hours while I was gone and that had caused the curcit breaker for the room to trip.

I restored toe power to the room and let the plugged in the lap top to let the battery charge. I am now not able to boot up the machine. When I press the start button the battery light blinks yellow about 8 or 9 times and them stops.

I am wondering if there is any significance to this blinking and if maybe the DC converter in the power cord could have been damaged in the power outage. It was not plugged in to a surge protector. :-(

An easy way to check would be to remove the battery and only plug in the system with the AC adapter.

If the system fails to boot, it would be a logical assumption that there is an issue with the adapter.

You might also try a different outlet in a different room, just in case.
