Switch 10

I have a Switch 10 that freezes on the Acer splash screen - the little circles go around once or twice then it's frozen. I've tried everything I can think of but the only way it does anything besides freeze is to boot into the BIOS or a windows recovery tools disk (PE environment) in safe mode (I've tried Windows 10, Windows 8, and Ubuntu disks with no success). I'm to the point that I've reformatted the hard drive but still nothing. My guess is that it's a hardware problem, but it's out of warranty so I'll probably just junk it if that's the case. If anyone has any other ideas I'd be happy to hear them otherwise I'll probably take it apart (i.e. break it beyond repair).

    Yeti8,

You reformatted the hard drive and used the recovery media you created to reload it?

Thanks for the reply. I backed up and reformatted with tools on a Win10PE-SE, which is the only disk from which I have had any success booting. Now, however, the WinPE isn't giving me the option for safe mode anymore and it just has the same freeze point (after loading files) at the splash screen with the circular pattern of dots.

I didn't make a recovery disk for the Switch 10, so I used a Windows 10 install disk (32 Bit) made from the media creation tool on the Microsoft website. I never had any luck with it. I've also tried Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu install disks

One thing that has apparently changed in the last two weeks that the computer has been untouched is that it won't let me into the BIOS. Pressing F2 takes me directly to an "enter password" screen. The password that I had used inside the BIOS doesn't work, so I'm not even sure what password it's looking for.

    Yeti8,

The only thing that I can really think that may resolve the issue would be to send out a set of recovery media, but with a current BIOS password issue I am not sure how well that is going to work for you.

I do not mind sending the media if you think you can get around the BIOS password.
